Clearcut near Big Indian Lake

Here are a couple of photographs of clear cutting near Big Indian Lake. Notice the roads and amount of area that has been cut. Clear cutting exposes the forest soil layer to tremendous stress as it compacts, erodes, bakes in the sun, and loses its humus content. The soil is one of the most import aspect of the forest environment and it takes centuries to develop. It ain’t just dirt.
